About Me
Lane Ellis found me and quickly connected me with H-berg friends. Thanks Lane! I lived in Heidelberg during 65 through the summer of 68. I was a (squirrel) freshmen and even had a photo in the Hoheit in a Lion suit on our float themed "Purple Haze" from (the missed) Jimi Hendrix. Go figure--- how a lion would fit with a theme like that--but that is how it was over there open, free, silly and tons of fun. That was an incredible time plus adventurous travels. I went with many H-bergers and other Military Brats on the trip with a British School to Israel (directly after the 7-day war), Morocco, Sicily, etc. over the 1967 Christmas break. I enjoyed dancing to "It's a Beautiful Day" and have not stopped since. I have become a Ballroom Dancer, Swing, Country--you name it for decades now. Look what dancing at the teen club did for me--made me a dancing fool. Ironically, John Vaughan rode the same bus I did (along with Dorothy Bang, Joanne Foelsch, Regina Foelsch and many more) and lived within the same vicinity. I have been practicing as a Speech and Language Pathologist for 32 years now (where did the years disappear to?). Mainly, I have worked with the Native Americans on their Pueblos. I like that--it is almost like going to another country, and I am picking up their language, although due to religious reasons it remains unwritten. I have also worked in hospitals, rehab, nursing homes, etc.--but it was not as interesting. I have traveled extensively since those times--I think I picked up the traveling bug while I was there--China for a month (when the Wall first opened and round eyes were novel), India and Nepal, spent a summer in Kauai house sitting and more. I would love to locate and reconnect with more friends from over there--so, please contact me. Post a Comment2 Comments
Gail, Sounds like you have many tales to tell! Recent and long ago. Would love it if you could come--yes, there is still time, but I need to hear from you soon. I guess you left the summer I arrived--I knew some of the kids in your class, but the only one I can remember now is Rick Whitney--he lived around the corner and we played hearts with his mom. What a character! Many other stories, of course, so yeah, you should come ifyou can! Let me know--you can email me and I'll send you the sign up sheet, but you'll have to send in a check asap. Hope to see you--and yeah, we're gonna be dancin'!
